To develop a successful restoration approach for a particular site, at the beginning of a project Cardno JFNew’s ecological professionals are frequently called on to conduct a site assessment where we measure and evaluate physical site conditions such as soil type, hydrology, pH, and presence of invasive species. We also assess current and previous land use both on site and adjacent to the site, to identify any possible barriers to long-term success. The objective of this assessment is to optimize the planting plan to create successful project outcomes.
Our custom site assessment supports the development of a site-specific restoration plan. We create site-specific project specifications, identifying what plant materials or supplemental techniques will achieve project goals. We also include recommendations on planting times, soil amendments, and maintenance techniques in the plan. And we perform botanical inventories for sites that already have native plants to provide suggestions on how to enhance or improve plant diversity.
